Students in the School of Arts and Sciences are required to take two writing-intensive courses (one in their major field of study) after they complete the first-year Seminar in Composition. Through writing, students in these classes intensify their engagement with course content while they also further their development as writers. Instructors should plan frequent opportunities for instruction and practice so that students can learn to meet the particular requirements of writing in the disciplines.

Each semester, the College Writing Board reviews faculty proposals for new writing-intensive courses. Faculty who are designing or revising writing-intensive courses are welcome to consult with Beth Matway or other members of the College Writing Board before submitting their proposals.
