Submission Guidelines for the OSSIP Awards

The following guidelines must be adhered to when submitting an entry for the OSSIP Awards.

  1. Contestants must be matriculated undergraduate students in the School of Arts and Sciences.

  2. Submitted papers must have been written to fulfill the requirements for a course at the University of Pittsburgh.  Papers may be revised before being submitted to the contest.

  3. Fiction and poetry are not eligible for the Ossip Award.

  4. All contestants must either include a copy of the assignment that prompted the paper, or attach a preface that explains the assignment in detail. Note: Submissions without an assignment sheet or preface will not be considered.

  5. The title of the piece must be included on the cover sheet and the first page of text.

  6. The student writer's name should not appear on any page on the manuscript (except for the cover sheet).

How to Submit

    To submit online:

    Complete the instructions provided for submitting electronically. Be sure to attach an electronic copy of your submission. Note: If your paper contains graphs, illustrations, or other non-text materails, please submit hard copies in person as directed below.

    Send both the cover page and assignment in an email to ebm12@pitt.edu.

    Attach the cover sheet to your submission and hand deliver eight clean copies (with just one cover sheet) to the Department of English main office:
